  1. I know questions like these have been asked a ton of times. So this is not what I'm asking about how to convert it or anything like that.

I need to get a few Ntsc Vhs tapes converted to Pal.

So the smart option would be to Pal DVD, This way they won't ever wear out like you'd get from a Vhs tape.

Initally I used my Pioneer 220 & hooked it up to my Ntsc compatible Vhs player. I then used the Pal-50 option to get a recordable signal. It worked okay but the quality was pretty rubbish.

I know there are Multi-System Vcr's, Capture Cards, Standards converters etc.

I was planning on going for a Samsung SV-5000W Multi System Vcr to change the output to Pal & then record onto Dvd. However I've read people saying the results weren't that good, while others have liked the final outcome. So for the UK model it costs around £300/£350= over $600 & I can't afford to be wasting that sort of money on something that won't give me what I'm looking for.

I know there is an upgraded model the SV-7000W but can't get any first hand reviews on it to make a judgement on.

Capture Cards are another choice, Get it into my PC then encode with Tmpgenc to Pal & burn to Dvd.

    Lastly a Standards Converter/Video Converter

So I was hoping somebody here with a lot more knowledge on the subject could advise me on the best quality method of those above.

I have around 50 odd tapes, So I checked out a company to do it for me. I found one that would do it for £14 each plus p&p.

Adding all that up, Plus any future tapes that I may go for, will end up costing more than if I had originally done it myself. So that's exactly what I have decided that will be more beneficial to me in the long run. So Price Wise I'd be willing to go upto to around £800/$1500 maximum. Although ideally around £500/$1000 would be my preferred price range.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks..

Be careful....there are "Multi Format" VCR's and then there are "Converting" VCR's....BIG difference.

  3. humm, not an expert but look around & see if you can capture ntsc on your pc at 23.976 fps, if so you can easily convert it to a pal format & enc as a dvd using DGPULLDOWN. 8)
