  1. i'm having a problem with my pinnacle pctv rave capture card under windows xp.. the problem is that i can't capture from it with virtual dub or avi_io, i can't find my card in the list of sources in the source settings window.. it worked when i had win98 so something's strange with the xp drivers... i've downloaded and installed the newest xp drivers that's on their website...

i can capture with the pinnacle app that came with the drivers, but there's no way of selecting which compression to use in that app, so it's not very good...

anyone who knows how to fix this?

I believe some of the other members are using iuVCR for capturing under WinXP. It's in the Tools section under "Capture".

  3. thanks.. i tried with iuVCR but it didn't work any good.. it found my tv-card in the source list but when i tried to capture with it i only got errors.. and when i tried to start it up later i only got a msgbox saying "Unable create instance of IAMStreamConfig (VideoCapture section)"..

i don't really know if i got any WMD-drivers installed, i've only installed the ones from pinnacles website.. is there any way to check if the drivers are real WDM-drivers?

    hope someone can help me...

I had the same problem. I have a PCTV pro. I tried installing the generic WDM driver for BT8?8 from Sourceforge. My computer won't boot after that. I uninstalled the WDM driver. Then I had to reinstall the Pinnacle driver(V 4.02). Then for some reason, the pinnacle showed up in the virtual dub video source list. Also suddenly the next day, the drivers couldn't find the card. Even PCVision didn't work. I had to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. Seems like the driver is flaky under XP.
I would suggest reinstalling the driver. Also remove any videocam if you have one.
I was not happy with the quality though. The video looked like B&W even with s-video input.

  5. You do not need WDM drivers for AVI_IO capturing under XP, just use the pctvcap.dll. I've got it working, no sweat. The PCTVPro software keeps a copy of the last updated driver in C:\PCTV40 folder. Try updating your current PCTV Pro driver with the 'Have Disk' option and point to C:\PCTV40\Drivers\oemsetup.inf and it will update the driver manually. Also startup PCTV Vision once to set to TV Channel if you want to capture from a TV Channel.

I also use DScaler to watch TV, the picture is much better and much more settings possible than the limited PCTV Vision software.
