  1. Hello Everyone,

As some of you may remember I posed this question a few months ago and we didn't really come up with a solid solution. I have found, however, a new piece of evidence that may make this possible. I recently installed Mepis Linux 3.3.1 on my computer and today I was watching my boot process and noticed this:

This means that Mepis does recognize the Dazzle Digital Video Creator 150 capture device. Is there any application that I can try to use to capture from this? Xawtv comes preinstalled but when I try to open it it just closes, here's a konsole output of it:
    xawtv
    This is xawtv-3.94, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.10)
can't open /dev/video0: No such device
v4l-conf had some trouble, trying to continue anyway
v4l2: open /dev/video0: No such device
v4l2: open /dev/video0: No such device
v4l: open /dev/video0: No such device
    no video grabber device available
    Any ideas?

I found over the years that because something is recognized by the OS dosen't mean that their is a driver for it. Case in point I have a web cam and 3 scanners all are detected and reported what they are. However only 1 of the scanners are autualy supported and setup on the fly for me.

That makes sense. Any ideas about how to try to get this running, though?

First thing I would try is to see if a driver even available. Do a google for the driver. If a driver can be found and if the driver is available for your running kernel before proceeding.

I've tried the google search but with no such luck. I wonder if there is some type of generic driver (something a google search wouldn't pick up) that would support the DVC 150 as well as some other devices.

  7. Yes, it is connected through a USB 1.1 hub that I have attached to my computer. My scanner is also attached via the hub, and it works in linux.
