  1. Neither my DVD (D:\) burner or my DVD reader (E:\) is showing up in the My Computer screen, and no programs on my computer even acknowledge it. When I go to Add/Remove Hardware, all it says for both drives is that "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)," yet both drives are connected and the wire is secure.

    What's going on?

    Thanks in advance.

One thing you can try. Go to Device Manager and uninstall the channel that those drives are on. The OS will reinstall the drivers.

A bigger problem is what caused this? What changes did you make to the system that may have caused it?

  3. i had a similar problem ages ago with my pc. uninstalling and installing the drives from device manager didnt help me, still couldnt see the drives in my computer and nothing would recognise them

last thing i did was come to this thread which solved my problem. i had to remove a reg key in my registry, rebooted and all was good.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320553/EN-US/

for me, i had uninstalled anydvd which rendered my drives missing from my computer.

hope the link helps you as it did for me 8)

Go to the MS article. You will need to delete your Upper and Lower Filters in the registry.
