No Sound after burning with Nero And Almost Homicidal

I have a clip I captured from my Motorola DCT-6412 and encoded using TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress. The audio stream format was MPEG 1 audio Layer II. The output stream type was System (Video + Audio).I authored it using TMPGEnc Author 1.6. Both the .mpg and the DVD file play fine on my computer using PowerDVD. When I burn the DVD using Nero (I right clicked the video ts folder and selected "copy compilation") the DVD plays fine on my PC but

NOT in my pioneer 578A player in my home theatre setup. Video is fine but no audio. WTF am I doing wrong? I've been working on this for two days now and would REALLY appreciate your help!

If I converted the sound to WAV wouldn't that be a significant downgrade in sound quality
    ?
    Thank you!!

BTW I didn't know which folder to post this in.

lot of pioneers dont play mpeg audio - i've seen 3 models that dont ..

no requirement that they have to in North America ..

convert the audio to ac3 or LPCM (which is better quality btw - as it is uncompressed)

THANK YOU for the reply! I am doing a quick clip as AC-3 now.

Hope springs eternal. Looking on the bright side of things although this has been giving me homicidal thoughts its better than feeling suicidal cause at least I am relating to others...

You might also want to check the audio settings menu of the player. It may well support mpeg audio, but not be set to down convert it to stereo (mine was set to send out a digital stream by default, not downmix to stereo PCM)
