    Hi

I have recorded lectures on my Analog Camcorder.

I will convert it from Camcorder to Computer using Pinnacle's MovieBox USB

Now, i would like to know. I need to keep these lectures on my website for Download.

Which format should i convert it to.

Since Pinnacle Studio software can convert to AVI,SVCD etc.

Should i use Pinnacle's software which came with the hardware or should I use any other conversion software after converting it to AVI or SVCD.

I am aiming for good quality without any loss but the size of the file should be the minimum.

Can it be achieved by converting AVI/SVCD to DivX or Xvid ?

Please, guide me to the right path

You can convert from avi to divx or xvid using virtualdub mod, select full processing mode, select the compression method of your choice, and save the output file and it will be converted to the format you selected. It does not have any codecs in its own, but it will use the already installed codecs on your computer as the choices for your compression.
As for quality, at low bit rate in order to keep file size small, I don't see any major differences. I have heard RMVB format can keep file size really small and better video quality at the same low bit rate compared to other codecs. An hour long video could be just 200-250MB.

first - if you are videotaping a lecture , you better make sure you have permission to post those tapes.. some schools do not allow that ...

second - divx and xvid and not made to be streamable formats - generally for best compatability you use Quicktime or windows media format ..

    WMV 9 i would go with ...

WMV plays on macs and would be about 50% of the size , but yes - mpeg1 plays everywhere
