  1. Bought a 5006 from Radio Shack the other day and have noticed a few problems:

    1) Timer recording using "Daily" (other choices are "Once" and "Weekly") records 7 days out of the week rather than the expected M-F.

    2) Mono tuner was too loud and emitted a hum. I upgraded the firmware and the tuner is no longer too loud but it still emits hum. I realize I can jack in a VCR and use its tuner but who wants to program 2 machines.

    3) As has been noted by others, the front jacks are noisy.

If anyone has any solutions to the problems (especially #1 and #2) please advise. I'd like to keep the machine for its great versatility but not if the downsides are unsolvable.

    Thanks,

    Jim

    1. lol wow that sucks. How about using the vcr+ mode? I would think that would solve the 7 days problem. Did you try that instead of programming it yourself

    2. I bet the tuners in all the liteons suck

    3. the front inputs on my liteon and ilo have that hum, I hear its a hardware issue that requires some modding

  3. There is no difference using VCR+ i.e. still records 7 days/week.

Use weekly mode. You will get a selection to pick the day(s) you want it to record. Hilight and select the check boxes for the day(s) you want it to record (m-f). It will now record m-f on a weekly basis. The Daily setting is going to be just that, every day (s-s).

LiteOn/ILO tuners suck. Try using high quality cables and keep the recorder isolated from other electronics. This may help the tuner hum.

    3) As has been noted by others, the front jacks are noisy.
Known hardware issue. It is poor shielding and grounding around the inputs and it is getting its buzz from the display panel. Not firmware fixable.

    I hope this helps............

    Hi Guitarman,

Doesn't work on the 5006. Is your experience with selecting M-F unique to your DVDRH04? The reason that I'm asking is that I also bought an ILO DVDR04 (not H04) and I am having the same inability to M-F with the ILO. However the H04 may be different.

Can other Ilo DVDR04 (not H04) owners please comment?

    Thanks,

    Jim
