Hi everyone,
I'm trying to encode a video I transfered from my dv camcorder to my computer. I transfered it as dv type 1, but then converted it to dv type2,
When I run it through TMPG Xpress to encode it to an mpeg, it will run for awhile and then just completely freeze my computer.
I've tried doing what the FAQs suggested and setting my direct show file reader to the top priority. However, the same problem still persist.
Can anyone give me some suggestions?
p.s. also, what's the difference between DV type 1 and type 2? why is type 2 better?
Thanks a bunch!

You need to rule out the software. Download VSO DivXtoDVD and see if it converts your footage without freezing the PC. If it works, then the prob is with TMPGenc. If BOTH encoding apps freeze, it could be an overheating CPU that freezes Windows as the temperature increases. Encodes take almost 100% CPU time, and the proc heats up bigtime.

Type 1 DV has the audio embeded within the the AVI video stream (the way it comes from the camcorder). Type 2 AVI has a second copy of the audio as an audio stream within the AVI.
