  1. Howdy all

What if ant is the best way to covert mpeg1 files to mpeg2. I tried one using Uleads Video Studio 8 but the movie came out with lots of flickering on my DVD Player and on my computer the audio was not in sync I don’t get that at all. However my goal is to get decent (not perfect) quality movies on to DVD. These are just training videos I have collected over the years so they need not be perfect just viewable and easy on the eyes with good sound.

I don’t have the original videos (well not all of them anyway) or I would re-capture them to see if that helps. Anyway if someone could guide me in the right direction I would be most appreciative.

    Thx Rob W

    Hi Robert Williams,

    Welcome to the forums.

If the MPEG1 is VCD compliant, then the video part of it is also DVD compliant. The only thins is that the audio needs to be resampled to 48KHz (from 44.1KHz if it's VCD).

You need to demux (demux = demultiplex = split) the audio from the MPEG1 file and then resample.

There are numerous ways and tools to do this, have a search around and see what you like the look of.

If the MPEG1 isn't VCD compliant, then it's gonna be a bit more tricky, it'll probably requir re-encoding and that loses quality.

To check compliance, get file info using either AVICodec (I think it does MPEGs) or the beta v2.52 version of GSpot. Compare this info against the info listed under "What Is... VCD/SVCD/DVD" at the top left of the page.

    Hope that helps. Good luck.

You might try VSO DivxToDVD. It takes quite a few formats. Easy to use, quick and it's freeware.
