Kill norton antivirus and any firewall
open up a command window (start->run->cmd)

Type ipconfig, and note what it says.

If it just returns to the next line, you NIC is disabled, of firewall issue. If it seems to lock up, firewall issue.

    IP = 169.xxx.xxx.xx ->
    run ipconfig /renew
Error with DHCP time out, either you router is bad, or you cable modem port is bad. Power off then on the router/modem try again. DHCP time out? Its a bad router/modem.

ipconfig /renew gives error something like, can not perform something on a socket that is not a socket. Delete winsock and winsock2 inside registry. Reinstall TCP/IP on top of itself, rebuild tcp/ip inside netsh with the reset reset.log command.

If IPConfig tells you media state disconnected. Your ethernet cable is bad, or the NIC driver is configured wrong. Make sure the link speed is set correct.

If ipconfig returns an address of 172.xxx.xxx.xx call tech support. You don't have active service, or they need to re-provision your CPE. It's in a frozen state.

If ipconfig gives you something beside 172.xxx.xxx.xx or 169... you're computer equiptment is ok, it's purely a settigs issue. Bypass all routers and connect your computer directly to the modem. And go from there.

If your using Windows XP, you won't be able to remove and re-install TCP/IP. Without knowing your OS, NIC, Broadband Modem, and Router it's kind of hard to help. One thing you can try is to set the Cable/DSL modem to 192.168.1.1. Set the Router's IP to 192.168.2.1. In the management page for your router, set it's default gateway to 192.168.1.1, and then set you router to use DHCP. Set your NIC to use the default gatewat of 192.168.2.1.

    At the command prompt, type:
    netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

The resetlog.txt is only a log file to view errors. I don't want to sound condescending, but if you don't know how to do this, the contents of resetlog.txt will probably make little or no sense to you.

Don't know why the others aren't finding the stuff. It depends on what it's finding.

Some programs may claim something is spyware when it isn't. Also some spyware tools will delete the offending program(s), but leave traces of it in the registry, or the folder behind. When traces are left behind, the other programs will pick them up.

If you're trying to remove something, but it keeps popping back up, reboot in safe mode, then run your spyware programs.

It's (winsock) actually an easy problem to fix. I run into this 5-6 times a day, everyday, on the phone.

You've yet to give a good description of you problem though. What did IPCONFIG tell you? That's the basic trouble shooting, inform what the problem is. If ipconfig gives a valid IP, then it's a 3rd party software problem. If ipconfig gives invalid IP, then it's a windows os/networking issue.

I had this car once, it was good. Then I bought another car, it wasn't as good. Why wasn't my second car as good as the first?

  10. ipconfig and ipconfig/renew works with no problem. I ran all the adware programs in safe mode and again only spy sweeper caught certain things left by the others which is (cydoor, ezula ilookup, purityscan and abetterinternet) also again i have already said in the first post what it doesnt do...... it doesnt surf on the wireless card or ethernet card thru ie or firefox and i have did a lot of those things that microsoft said to do in their knowlege post but they didnt work.

  11. Ok back to basics.
How are you trying to connect to the net ?
    Cable
Adsl > usb modem or combined adsl modem-router
Or are you using a modem and then a router ?

Is it just something simple like not having a option ticked/not ticked in browser ? Like when using adsl you need to have never dial a connection ticked.....

ok its nothing with my network set up because all my other computers are connected wirelessly or wired and there is no security on my a.p. so thats not the problem..... actually this is a computer that a friend brought to me and i clean it of viruses and adaware which i think it did something to the tcpip...... it already had ie on it so i put firefox on it hoping it just damaged the ie browser but i was wrong. i got all the ad aware off except the stuff that spy sweeper saw..... went into safe mode and tried to del it and it says it did but really didnt.

  14. Can you access your routers config page from the Pc that is giving problems. Sounds far more like that Pc isnt configred properly to access net with your home network set-up.
Open up tcp/ip properties on a working system and check against the non working one.....
