  1. Hello,
Is there a good GraphEdit filter around I can use to encode 4-5 mono wave files into one Prologic/Prologic-II encoded wave file?
If there ain't any - is there any good (free!) standalone tool I can use?

Prologic is analogue, not really encoded. You can flag it as PL, and let the chips fall where your PL amp plays them.

If you have 4 or 5 mono wavs, why not make them AC3. Your player will downmix them to stereo of you use the analogue outputs, and you can still run them through a PL amp if you want.

If you only have a mono track, or even just a stereo track, then you may as well leave it alone.

  3. AC3 is nice and probably the best choice as long as you keep the audio digital (by the way if you know about a good free AC3 encoder, I'll be happy to hear that too).
However, if I'd like to record it on a tape (yeah I know it's old and useless, but still), then any digital encoding cannot be used. As far as I know, Prologic is the only way to encode surround sound to analog tape.

  4. You can downimx a digital surround sound to pro logic with Besweet. generally I use it to downmix AC3 5.1 to MP2/MP3 preserving the surround sound, but I think it works also with wave 5.1 (but I've never tried it).

    another way:
mux your file in 6WAV (insert an empty channel if necessary) using the default AC3 channel order (-> tool besweet).
Feed the latest HeadAC3 with this WAV and use the downmix option to DPLI/II. The method is very very fast!
