I have 2 files that are avi. I joined with virtual dub that were about 750mb each after the join the total conbined files was 83GB. I was anticipating around 1.4GB not 83gb. What would I be doing wrong I wanted to put this on a dvd after a mpg conversion.

    Thanx all.

  2. Hi-

What would I be doing wrong...

You have to set Video to Direct Stream Copy. You reencoded the whole thing uncompressed.

...but if your next step is to create a DVD specs mpg, you could as well use your 83 GB AVI as source, if you have any HDD space left.

can it be join in its original compressed format to get me to about 1.4GB, and still be able to convert to a dvd. I don't have any space left to do anything else.

Probably, if the two files are "identical", that is use the same codecs, resolution & cetera. Just do as manono said, set both audio & video to direct stream copy.

  6. How about making your life easy. Just make an AVS file with the following:

    Code:
    avisource("file1.avi") + avisource("file2.avi")
And open that in your MPEG convertor. One unnecessary step saved.

Yup, most things are most easily solved with AviSynt, if you know how to operate it. Since most people seem to be very frightened of entering commands using the keyboard, (Thanks, M$! ) a roundabout pointanclick way seems to be the best recommendation on most occations...
