    I want to play a dvd with dts on my laptop i can see the movie but have no sound is there a kind of codec that i caninstall so i can hear the sound

    I think that both your player and the audio needs to both support the DTS format. No codec will help.

    a dvd will have dolby besides DTS , you can play that instead ..

    or just load the DTS codec -- install powerdvd or windvd or see the tools section

    Media Player Classic has a built in DTS decoder.
    ffdshow and newer versions of AC3Filter also supports DTS. All are using the same lib (from VideoLAN), so quality should be the same.

    Incorrect. A software codec will do the trick. Examples already given by memebers, PowerDVD, MPC etc...
