  1. Hi all...

I have just purchased a "Pioneer DVR-109" DVD burner.

Please advice what driver/sofware I need to download and install.

Do I need a so call "firmware (DVR 109 FW150 from Pioneer website)"?

Is this firmware equals the driver?

    Thanks in advance.

You can download the latest firmware from the pioneer website and update if you wish.

You do not need drivers as Windows XP will auto-detect the drive when installed.

firmware does not equal drivers. they are two different things.

  3. You dont need any specific drivers to make the drive work, just install it and the operating systems should do the rest.

As regards to software, it depends what you are going to use it for ie backing up your DVD's, making your own DVD's etc.

But for backing up your DVD's I would recommend DVDshrink and DVDdecrypter.

For a more specific answer to your software needs it would be best to let us know what you wish to do.

As for fimware, this is the embedded software that the drive uses and updates are released as and when required to cope with new DVD media and read/write speeds for the drive/media.

There is a dedicated website for the Pioneer DVR-109 here,

  6. Lordsmurf,
Since you are recommending 1.40 firmware I take it you've run into issues with 1.50 as well? Just curious as I'm been having lockups with 16x CAV media and it seems to be worse in 1.50 than 1.40.
