I am just starting out on capturing and my first task is to grab some of the tv shows I have recorded on my dvr and burn them to dvd. I have read the guides and know I will need to encode to MPEG2 before buring to DVD. I also read that what Satalite companys do is send the signal digital and then convert it to analog for play, it is recoreded onto the HD inside the DVR as MPEG2 (if I understood correctly). My question is when recording to the computer (capturing) what format will I maintain the best quality. It seems like going through a few compressions will destroy the quality.
I do not know exactly what software I will be using as of yet, becuase I am struggling with a problimatic MB atm, possibly will have to RMA it before I get started. But you could say I am chomping at the bit and the more I read about capturing the more projects I end up planning out. Thus I want to get as much of a jump as possible on my planning stage.
