Hello! It's my first post here in a while so be gentle.
Firstly, I'm on Windows XP behind a Belkin F5D6230-3 router. I've forwarded my ports on that and my software firewall (Norton) is allowing it internet access.
I think however that the problem lies with the IP address which the FTP server is trying to listen using. Whenever I run it off my internal Ip address (192.168.2.4) I get a green light and the program tells me everything's operating as it should. However, people can't access my server using that IP can they?
I therefore tried altering the IP to my proxy IP and my external IP - both of which I obtained from whatismyip.com. This time, a red light was displayed for each IP, and the program suggested the server was running from an IP which did not exist.
Can anyone suggest which IP I should be using or perhaps somewhere else where I've gone? Or could anyone suggest a more simple FTP program to use?
Thanks everyone!![]()

Put your server's IP back to the private internal address assigned to your system.
On the router, open up Port 21 or 22 if you are using SSH. Forward all FTP traffic (port 21) to the itnernal 192.168... address of your server, or workstation running SFTP server.
Tell teh other people to connect to your IP you got from whatsmyip.com and your router will forward them to your internal address for you.
