I bought a 1600ZU model at Target for $97. This ZU model records both DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW. This feature is not mentioned on the box. Picture quality is good, even recording at the 4 hour speed yield's good macro and noise free recording.
The most annoying quirk is that you constantly have to re-select the input,it seems anything you do resets it to the logo screen. Menus are confusing. You finalize by ejecting the disk. My problem was that when you used the S-video input jack you got noise in the picture, diagonal lines visible in dark scenes, and a vertical bar moving left to right across the screen. I removed the cover and found that input jacks are on same daughter board with the RF connectors. I'd bet money that's the source of the picture problems. Very compact, the DVD loader is mounted over the main PCB board. No fan so it tends to get warm.
I exchanged for another unit, but it displayed the same noisy picture the first one had. In addition the picture quality on the second one was appallingly bad. Horribly over-saturated color and blurry images.
    This is one to avoid.

I had Cyberhome 1500 & 1530 both had circuit board problem. Both uses a circus chip and had a great picture for 2 hours, 4-6 good picture. But it SUCKs. I had a friend who brought 1600 said it has a good picture but here we go again it flash him it won't finalize disc etc etc. I would spent the extra buys and get a solid brand like JVC, Pioneer, Lite-on. But if you want the heart ache go head .Oh Yea, maybe you can use it as a playback deck. Kept your receipt & warranty your going to need it!!!!!!!

  5. I bought one recently and have been having problems even with playback of DVDs.
When i tried to record the image froze on the screen once.
I tried to record couple of times from a Dish DVR and it froze. I had to turn off the power and restart. Not worth the money.
Better to stick with some good name brands.

I know cyberhomes stink but after going through a 1500 then a 1530 they gave me another 1500. I have had it for about 4 or 5 months and it has been flawless. I love the 3 hour setting and wish my Liteon had it.
