  1. *firstly, i did a search which hasnt explained how to solve the problem in terms i can understand. sorry for any duplicity in threads.

hey guys, i have a DVD image (.img file).
i tried to burn it to dvd with nero and was told it may not be playable due to an error.
so i mounted the image with daemon tools and tried to open the image with dvd shrink.
this didnt work, and it said it had an invalid menu structure, yet it works with power dvd.

whats the easiest way for a newbie to solve this problem?

thanks for any help and suggestions you can offer.
also, please ask questions in case i havent described anything properly.

    thank you.

When you burned the image with Nero did you burn as data or did you "open" the image and burn it?

I've never seen that error in shrink, but if Power DVD can play, it should work in your standalone also.

    thanks for the reply.
i tried to open the image in nero but it reported an unknown error.
i then mounted it with daemon tools, and tried to burn a dvd video by copying the image drive files into the video ts folder and nero reported that the outcome of the dvd will not be playable.
i burned anyway, and it was a dud.
didnt work in anything apart from my pc (power dvd).

1st, where did the .img come from-did you create it yourself? get it from a friend? Internet DL? It's history might indicate how it was formatted, and by what app.

2nd, what does the file structure actually look like? Open up the (dud) burned disc in ISOBuster, and copy the list of files and their sizes, LBA's etc to show us. This would help us help you (we would compare that structure to known good structures).

3rd, Just because PowerDVD plays it doesn't mean its compliant enough to work correctly on settops.

  5. thanks for the replys guys.
ive been playing around with it all night and heres what ive found.
-the image cannot be burnt directly to a dvd-r as it is unplayable.
-so i burnt it to a dvd-rw ignoring all the error messages and it worked!
-i then copied that dvd-rw onto a dvd-r and it works fine.

so. for anyone else that has these unexplainable problems heres what to do.
1-burn the image to another image (instead of dvd-rw)
2-then burn your new image to dvd-r.
    *ignore all error messages.

i had four downloaded images that didnt work because of this, but as they would be considered warez i was reluctant to state the source. they work now though.

    thanks guys.

I had a similar issue once before. Every time I would burn the image to DVD-R it wouldn't play, however I wasn't getting an error during burning.

What I ended up doing was mounting the image, using DVD Decryptor to rip the disc, then DVDShrink to compile a new image.
