  1. I understand using XP you don't have to instal any INCD software to allow you to drop and drag. Also I understand you have to make your CDRW drive the Master drive using the jumper on the back.

However, when I click in 'My Computer' it is still showing as a CD Drive (which I think should show CDRW Drive) and when I use explorer to drag file to that drive it does not allow me.

Please Please help as I have a lot of file to put on to some CDRW, and as NERO INCD latest version does not work with XP i'm stuffed.

  2. Did you try the WinXP Windows Update for burning issues? It solved me a lot of problems What kind of a burner do you have?

  3. Think I did, I got an update from Microsoft web page but this seems not to have done anything. Where did you get your update from. The burner I have is TDK CyClone 16/10/40.

In my XP Pro system, my Yamaha 2100E shows up as a Yamaha 2100E in device mgr, and in My Computer as a CD-RW drive.

I did have problems initially though.

It showed up as a CDROM drive in device mgr. I tried un-installing it, but it came back the same.

I finally went into my BIOS and disabled it, rebooted, shut down and re-enabled it in the BIOS.

    Now it shows up OK.

Also, that update from MS was labeled as a CD-RW burner update, so make sure thats the one you got (if it dosen't show up as a CD-RW in My Computer though, I doubt the update will help).

it will always say it is a cdr drive, go to drive properties and see if you have a tab for writting speed, if you do then XP see's it as a cdrw drive.

"it will always say it is a cdr drive"

    I disagree. Mine says "CD-RW".
I can send you a screen shot if you don't believe me.

Maybe it's in the drive firmware, I have a tdk velo with the latest firmware and it just says cdr, but I do have the recoding tab in properties so xp recognizes it as a cdrw and I can use cdrw media. And the screen shot is unessary, I believe you...lol

  8. I installed XP and had similar problems. I found out that the problem was the hotfix update fro windows update. Just go to add or remove programs and uninstall the cd burner update, I think it is Q309691 ??? After uninstall you should be working. Don't worry if windows recognizes cd-rom t still works.

Kind of a late question, but do you have a record tab under drive properties?

Did you check TDK customer support web site? It may have a software update to make this work. I know my previous HP7200 was not recognized and HP just released a fix for it. In the mean time I just replaced it with an LG and it worked right out of the box.

  13. sommersby, no there is no tab with record tab under drive properties, and in the meantime I have unistalled the drive and now every time I start windows it is asking me for a driver however I don't have one.

I have looked on the TDK web site, for a driver and some sort of fix but no joy.

So does any of you guys know where I can get a driver for the TDK Cyclone 16/10/40 which of course may fix this problem but may not!!
