  1. I have a lot of video files that have subtitles in them, but the subtitles, when played on a tv screen can't be seen. They show up fine on a computer, but because My dvd player plays DIVX files, the subtitles get cut off.

Anyone know how to take a 640x480 video file, so that I can 'add" borders around it so that the subtitles "move" up so they can be seen on a normal TV set? Looking to add about 50 pixels on each side of the file

    Hi,

You might want to try tmpgenc and use the clip feature. I know you can add blackbars to the frames but I'm not sure if you can increase the size of the frame. Worth a try on a test clip.

  3. Hm, not interested in turning them into mpeg files, wouldn't "clipping" take away from the movie frame thereby cutting off footage?

and I can't find any "clip" feature in tmpgenc 12a

  4. Try the "center (custom size)" feature in tmpgenc. This should allow you adjust your video size so that the overscan on your TV doesn't cover up the subs.

  5. Frame serve them with Avisynth. You can use FitCD to make your script then just open up your script into your encoder of choice.b Try this script, your gonna have to re-encode to get your desired results.

    AVISource(".avi")
    LanczosResize(540,380)
    AddBorders(50,50,50,50)
    Quality is my policy.

  7. Sorry, I'm no expert with this software so I'm not sure what verion 12a is. I'm not at home right now so I don't remember what version I have either. I click on the "settings" button in the lower right and click on the "advanced" tab. Under "video arrange method," I select "center (custom size)." This will allow you to adjust the video pixels. Every TV has a different degree of overscan so you will want to test to see what fits your TV. There were some similar threads if you do a search under "fansubs" or "overscan." I hope this helps.

  8. Use the resize filter in Virtualdub (it's free). Resize from 640x480 to about 560x420 (recommend you use the Lanczos3 resize algorithm) then use the "Expand frame and letterbox image" option to restore the frame size to 640x480. Rencode back to Divx or Xvid.

Could you provide a link to or a guide on how to use Fit2Cd. It doesn't make any sense to me
In fact anything on how to do what you are describing. It makes absolutely no sense to me on what you just posted.
