I put some video from my MiniDV camera on my machine via FireWire using Vegas. Each tape gave me an avi file about 25 Gig in size. I cut each avi into smaller avi files in order edit them and author them to a DVD.
My problem is that if I do not reduce the size o fthese avi files than it looks like my vacation video may be a multi DVD set.
Thanks for your help.

When you author them to DVD, they will be encoded to mpg. This will surely reduce the size compared to their DV AVI incarnation. How much, depends on what bitrate you use when encoding. Don't know Vegas well enough to guide you, but there should be some "quality" setting or other to that effect, even if doesn't explicitly let you control the bitrate.
