The link seems to have died ... but I found it elsewhere:

I wonder where this was first broadcast ... if it was part of some BBC comedy show? It is so much like Monty Python it could almost BE them, hehe.

  4. I think I first saw it on the BBC comedy series "Drop the Dead Donkey" almost 10 years ago.

Perhaps you saw a variation of the same skit but this video has to be more recent. It talks about American troops controlling Tikrit ... and we had no troops on Iraqi soil back then. It also says we are looking for Saddam Hussein who, until we came over there, was not in hiding. So, it's fairly recent ... but obviously done before we caught Saddam. Hmm ... this is gonna bug me.

  7. One funny thing was that the Iraqi soldier said : "I studied english in Bloody America"... so far I don't remember americans using the term "bloody", isn't that an UK term?

    Update. According to this page:

    http://justagirlintheworld.com/2004/09/23/subtitles-in-iraq/

the skit was shown on FoxNews on 9/23/2004 ... and according to post #9 on that page, the skit's origin was an Australian TV show called "Comedy, Inc." However, the post didn't mention when it was originally broadcast. Since it refers to "hunting" for Saddam Hussein, it had to have originated prior to his capture in December 2003.

Comedy, Inc. is also responsible for this funny video parody of "Wheel of Fortune":

    http://tvshows.ninemsn.com.au/mediapopup.aspx?mediaid=11448

There is also a "Best of Comedy, Inc." DVD available here:

    http://www.hmv.com.au/product/dvd.asp?sku=938157

and that Iraq Report might be on it. The product description doesn't mention it, though. The DVD is also rentable through Australia's Quickflix (like Netflix):

    http://www.quickflix.com.au/public/tools/viewmovie/BestofComedyIncTheVolume1/20945.aspx

And, I couldn't help but notice this DVD is "Volume 1" ... but of how many volumes???

However, Comedy, Inc. does have it's own website:

    http://www.comedyinc.com.au

I sent them email, giving them a link to the video and a description of it (if they don't want to see the link), asking them: (1) did they do it, and (2) if it's on their DVD. Heck, I might order that DVD myself. It looks like it would be lots of fun (and viewable on my region-free PAL/NTSC DVD player as well).

Will post something if they reply to me.

Actually he said "American University in Cairo" ... where some of the teachers may actually be non-American speakers of English.

Everybody knows that they butcher the english language over there and you have to come to America to learn to speak it properly.

BTW, for anyone interested, I was able to find that DVD cheaper here:

    http://www.empiredvd.com.au/buy_dvd_info.asp?iid=12669

Also, orders to the US are exempt from the GST tax. So, if I order it, it'll only be $21.05 (USD) after shipping costs are added in.

I read a lot of reviews of that DVD and they concur. But, if you happen to know someone who owns it (or know a knowledgible person in a video rental store), could you find out if that Iraq Report skit is on the DVD?

While most reviews of their comedy were negative, some were glowing. And if that Iraq Report skit is an example of what's on the DVD, I might be part of that rarified minority who actually like their humor.

P.S. FWIW, in the US, Saturday Night Live used to be one of the funniest improv comedy shows on TV. Maybe it still is, to most people. But, the last time I watched it, I distinctly remember falling asleep during the program. After the original members of the improv team went their own ways, it just wasn't the same anymore (IMHO).

  15. I'll see if I can find out for you AlecWest. I only saw a couple of
samples on TV and quickly dismissed it. I seriously doubt the
rest of the show is as pythonesque as that sketch. I have
a friend who works for Video Easy, so hopefully he may have
    some answers.

    -edit-

Yes we know SNL. Some of the early stuff was brilliant. The new
SNL, much like the Mad Show, seems to be aimed at a different
generation. All up I find the British produce the best comedy - past and
    present.

Update. I got a reply on my email to Comedy, Inc. They say it is not them ... but is probably another group called Comedy, Inc. operating out of Canada. I'm aware of the Canadian group since they occasionally have shows on the Spike TV Channel. But, now I'm back to square one (sigh).
