  1. I have a jvc DR-M10 that im recording old vhs tapes too and then dumping vob files to hard drive to author. I have a few programs I have been trying to cut and edit then author to put on perment dvd-r but having trouble with working with the large vobs seems to hang my machine up (2.8 P4). I have been renaming the .vob to .mpg. Maybe some that have been doing this process could share what software they are using would be great. Thanks for any help.

  2. I use Womble mpeg video wizard for this. It accepts the .vob files straight off, no need to rename. When you have completed your timeline, it will output your final product to an mpeg fiel, only renering if you have added trsnsitions etc. Therefore it is quick and you get no quality loss.

  4. I will look into these programs asap, after you output you .vob what are u using to author and if these turn into large vob's does your computor or software have a hard time loading with them? I will have 2 hrs of video or lets say thanksgiving which will be 4 large vob's that I may cut out some stuff but join back togeather to put to dvd-r and would like to put chapters and titles on dvd not sure of many programs working with vob's ?
    Thanks again

  5. I would use ProjectX to demultiplex the large vobs (if there are several contingent vobs, join them in ProjectX itself), mpeg2schnitt or cuttermaran to cut and join the resulting videos and GUI for dvdauthor or dvdauthorgui to create the DVD structure (menus and chapters). All these apps are freeware, do not reencode anything, are quite secure in avoiding audio video sync problems, but may require a little bit more effort to learn how to use them.

If all you need for editing is simple cut/splices then TMPGEnc DVD Author will accept the VOB's. It can cut the unwanted bits and then re-author and burn to disk.
