  1. When i record tv programs in full anamorphic 16/9 format from sattelite or digital cable, i obtain a very nice picture quality.
But when burning them to dvd, the player or PC does not recognise them a widescreen format. they are still recognised as 4/3 altough the pichture is 16/9. which results in wrong settings on TV.
All the settings on my E85H are set to 16/9.
    Anyone with the same experience?
    greetings.

  2. If I encode a DVD like that I can only watch it on my widescreen 16:9 television which will 'stretch' the picture out to view it properly as it would have to when recieving the 16:9 signal from a digital reciever.

What I have to do to view a film recorded in this manner, on my widescreen tv, PC screen and my 5:4 portable tv (i.e. all quipment not just the one), is to encode it to 5:4 letterboxed.

  3. Yes i know, i also only play it on my 16/9, or when i play it on my PC i change the settings.
But there must be some form of indication on a dvd that tells the player that the program is widescreen.
If you take an example of someone with a 4/3 Tv an and a DVD player with the correct settings. It will play any movie in letterbox and it will play my DVD as a stretched picture.
The E85H doesnt write that indication onto the DVD.

I use DVD Patcher on the MPEG file to change the header from 4x3 to 16x9 (leaving the resolution specs as-is and specifying the same bitrate as before).

DVD authoring programs then see the file as 16x9 and create 16x9 DVD's from it.
