  1. a machine i built for a friend.
which has the same dvd writer as mine.

tried to copy a dvd using clonedvd, which started ok, then stopped and reported a fault, maybe bad media. tried another disc with same error.

have realised when a dvdr is put in drive it seems to recognize disc as a cdr. (under my computer when disc is inserted it then says cd drive, where as on mine it stays as dvd-rw drive)

i did update the firmware to 3.04 from nec. could this have gone bad?

any idea's please? or should i return drive as faulty?

  2. check out the forums at CDFreaks.com as I seem to recall a couple topics with similar problems on the NEC Burner board.

  6. how would the bios affect it? its says its a dvd rw drive so the bios recognize its as such, its just when a dvdr disc is put in it says its a cd.
i have now had sent it back, as its new i can get a refund if i send it back now.
i will then get another one and test it here, as its for someone else(who i do not vist that often). if it works fine in mine i will know its not the drive.
