hopefully this is the right place to post this.
I have a video file that is exactly 700mb and is in the file format xvid. I own a Pioneer 575a dvd player that plays Divx movies(or so it says).
So, how do i record this xvid file onto a disc so that my dvd player will play it? will i need any software to do it, if so which? or can i just use Something like Record Now DX and save it as a data disc?
Are xvid and divx the same thing or does it need converting?
Cheers for your help.

Convert it to Divx. I use Dr. Divx but there are others. Virtual Dub I think will also handle this so long as you have the Paid for Registered Divx encoder in your system. Set it to output to a 700 or smaller MB file and burn to CD.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
You should be able to write the xvid file to cd as a data disc (blank cds are pretty cheap or you could use a cd-rw). I do not have the Pioneer player so I don't know if there are any issures with the qpel, gmp or other advanced xvid features. If the video does not play, you may want to re-encode (using the programs mentioned by jtoolman2000) without these options or re-encode to divx.
As I said, I do not have this player and do not know for certain if it plays xvid or not.Melde Melda Vessė

1) It needs to be in an avi container.
2) Can't use GMC or be > 720x576.
3) MTK chipsets have issues with certain CQM's (Custom Quant Matrix).
Think that about covers it. Also needs a compatible audio format such as mp3, AC3 or WMA. DTS is probably ok to.
Not sure how the player handles UDF, but it would be better if it was < 2GB's so you could burn as ISO.
Even players that don't support XviD should if you change the files fourCC. As DivX and XviD are just ASP MPEG4 video codec implimentations. If the same features are used then in terms of playback, they should be interchangable.
