    Hi everybody,
Trying to convert a dvd Les guignols from PAL-> NTSC
to bring to a Friend in Canada.
    1. DVD2avi v 1.85 was used to extract mp3 audio and to create project file.

    03.06.2005 13:30 253'575'994 guipal AC3 T01 2_0ch 192Kbps 48KHz.mp3
    03.06.2005 13:30 767'967 guipal.d2v

    2. In TMPGenc 2.58.44.12, I loaded the unlock.mcf file and used setting
    "MPEG-2 720x480 25fps CQ 85, Layer-2 48000Hz 384kbps" (bitrate 4k-2k)
to get the following PAL file with 720x480 resolution:

    03.06.2005 22:21 4'876'709'892 guipal.720.480.mpg

    3. In TMPGenc, File->MpegTools->Simple demultiplex gave me
    03.06.2005 22:43 4'284'994'784 guipal.720.480.m2v
    03.06.2005 22:43 507'245'184 guipal.720.480.mp2

    4. Opened up DGPulldown v 1.03 and did a 29.97 conversion to get:
    05.06.2005 14:14 4'284'994'784 guipal.720.480.m2v.pulldown.m2v

    5. Tried to create the DVD files using TMPGEncDVDAuthor .
5.1 File guipal.720.480.m2v.pulldown.m2v loaded no problem.
    5.2 Got an error loading file guipal AC3 T01 2_0ch 192Kbps 48KHz.mp3
with a big red message indicating it was non DVD compliant.

Can someone show me how to redo the above correctly or how to convert
the mp3 (or wav) file to mp2 (or preferably Dolby AC3)
so that I can create my dvd files?

    thanks in advance.

    Take this file:
    03.06.2005 22:43 507'245'184 guipal.720.480.mp2

and re-encode to AC3 in Besweet or Belight, or just use that mp2 in TMPGEnc DVD Author if MP2 is good enough.

I *think* you'll need to do the 25 --> 29.97 conversion on the audio too

    I never knew DVD2AVI could output MP3s though ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

    thanks jimmalenko!
It's just that in the past I was using dvd2avi, vfapi,flaskmpeg/virtual dub to create avi files from DVDs.

I redid step 5.1 with the mp2 file.

NOw the resulting authored dvd has the audio something like 1000ms ahead of the video.

Is there another tool I can use in step 1 instead of dvd2avi?

    thanks

Yeah, like Jimmy, I've never heard of getting MP3 directly from DVD2AVI either. Anyway, get the AC3 from DGIndex, or any of the DVD2AVI versions. I don't know why you're messing with MP3 anyway, if your goal is a DVD. That way, you'll encode the video to 720x480, run DGPulldown for 25->29.97fps, and you can use the untouched AC3 as is with no reencoding necessary.

Make sure you take note of the audio delay (if any) and either allow for it in your authoring app, or fix it with AC3 Delay Corrector, or some such.
