    I use Fair Use wizard to convert DVDs to Xvid files. The conversion is done in two passes. What is the purpose for two passes? What is accomplished in two passes that can't occur in one? I know it produces better results but I am interested in knowing more about what specifically happens.

    Generally, the first pass does an analysis of the data to determine the best distribution of the data based on movement and change within and across frame. The second pass refines this analysis an applies the compression.
