  1. Hi i ma looking for a new dvd player to replace my current cyberhome AD-L 528 that does not play avi, xvid, divx.
after reading the forums etc on here i have seen that the philips 642 seems to be a good player (although seems to break down a lot after 6 months) ,but it does not seem to be available here in the uk.
what is a good alternative that will play the above formats, available to buy in the UK and will not break the bank ,

  4. Avoid Philips all I can say it’s not made to last more than 5 or 6 months even after updating the firmware. Mine keeps freezing during the 1st 10 min of any movie I watch (its more than heat issue).get the Pioneer DV588AS http://ww3.onecall.com/PID_27949.htm
I'm not sure if this one is the same model.

  7. yeah yamada is ok.. as is dtk and ronin.. they all need a degree of polishing that maybe only Mega-corp and nero-digital/divx 6 will give. Slight user-unfriendliness to all the menus mp3 playing(try 6000 songs in the root folder).
