  1. I've been authoring DVDs from films I record off-air as follows:

    I burn a DVD+RW in my stand-alone DVD burner.
I copy the VOB files to my computer.
I rip mpeg2 files from the VOBs using MPEG Video Wizard 2003
(I need mpegs for editing purposes)
I author and burn the DVD using TMPGEnc DVD Author

This usually works fine, but in my latest project, the audio gets increasingly out of sync - by the end of the film it is a full 2 seconds off!

The weird thing is that the MPEG2 that I made with the Video Wizard plays fine in RealPlayer, but I've tried authoring the DVD in two different programs and the audio gets off in both.

What could be causing this when other films have transferred with no problem?

    Thanks for any help!

Sometimes if you make a lot of edits/cuts in a single MPEG file it will cause audio to go out of sync. Try to keep edits down to a few. If it is necessary to make several cuts, try to break it down into smaller files then join them together later.

Something else you can try is to demux the MPEG, then mux it. Sometimes separating the video/audio streams then rejoining them will actually fix audio sync problems.

  3. It's actually one clip with no edits. To make it, I open 4 VOB files from the DVD+RW disc and convert them into one MPEG file using Video Wizard.

What's the best program to use to demux and rejoin a 90 minute movie quickly?

You can use the trial version of TMPGEnc:

Once you get it running, look under File > MPEG Tools. No guarantee it will work but it's worth a try. Has worked for me a couple times.
