That stucked little window is virtualdub working in frame server mode, just simply use the video encoder you are going to use on the .vdr.avi file you saved.

Your encoder program should be able to open the frame served file without problems.

A frameserver sits and waits for requests for the frames from another program. As Dpick said, load the vdr file into your encoder, and you will see you encode taking the frames from the frameserver.

If you just want to see what virtualdub is doing, you don't frameserve, just watch the preview window.

the problem is that after loading the subtitle filter and adding subtitles i'm starting the frameserver and saving the avi file under new avi file name and the little window opens but the frameservering process do not take place - it's like stuck...: )

shimi, are you understanding what we are trying to tell you?

The stuck window of virtualdub in framserver mode is not actually stuck.

Its just sitting there waiting for you to use the video encoder you are going to use on it.

I use virtualdub all the time framserving avi files to TMPGENC to encode into DVD mpg files.

When you tell virtual dub to framserve, it ask you to give it a title when it turns into the tiny window, than it ask you where to save the framserved avi file, this where you save the avi file as example.vdr.avi.

You need the .vdr. extension before the avi extension or else the frameserver will not work.

If you use the .vdr. extension , you should be open the vdr.avi file in your encoder program , for me it would be TMPGENC, I don't know what program you were planning on using to encode your avi files.

All virtualdub is doing in framserving mode is simply passing frames to anouther program to allow it to encode it into something virtualdub can't handle.

It sounds really complicated, but its really quite simple once you get the hang of it.
