I have a number of tiff image files scanned and saved on a cd from a few years ago. Trying to open them now, in either Photoshop or any other way, half a dozen refuse to open citing "read error", at the same time hanging the whole program. Is there any way of opening these files so I can re-copy the cd on to another ?

    You might try isobuster.

  3. The CD may have developed a fine oxide film after all these years. Try cleaning the CD with a very mild detergent solution in luke warm water. Use a soft cloth to clean. Sometimes the most simple methods work.

CD/DVD Diagnostic has saved me a lot of frustration over the years. You can only check to see what you can recover with the trial - you have to buy it to actually recover files. I've found it's well worth the cost compared with losing the data. Look around - maybe there's something similar for less but I mention this one as it's always been something I can rely on.
