Hi,
Is there any way you can save Settings/Advanced/Video Source Setting/Source Aspect Ratio to 16:9 for ReadOnly, well the same goes for any of these settings.
All I want to do is LOAD say PAL 16:9 video and audio files, LOAD the appropriate template and hit START, same goes for 4:3 PAL/NTSC Video Source as well.
Even saving these settings as a PROJECT with blank filenames is fine, I can re-load the project, but as soon as I load the files, it changes.
Cheers.![]()

I'll take a closer look at the template files again to see if I can locate this entry (they're simple text files) and try to get back to you.
In the meantime, the simple fix is to always load your template after you've specified your video and audio source files. -
The template files can be opened and edited using Windows Notepad.
After you have made your changes to the template and saved it, open it with Notepad.
Any setting you want to set as read only, find the corresponding ReadOnly statement and change to True.
e.g. MPEG.Video.MaxBitRate_ReadOnly = False
change to
MPEG.Video.MaxBitRate_ReadOnly = True
This will lock in your settings as read only.

Hi,
Thanks for replying.

Yes I know that, but I can't LOCK in the settings from Advanced tab.

Even if I've saved my Template previously, then load the audio and video files 1st, then Load template, same thing, the Advanced settings revert back to DEFAULT settings.
I want to create Templates for the encoding I do so I only have to load template and click Start, call me lazy if you wish, I call it trying to get consistent results as you can always forget to alter something.
Cheers.

KennyC,
Ok, I'll jump in here. I'm not so agravated anymore, he, he...
First, what version of TMPG R U using?
This is what I do whenever I have a project to do (which are many) - stick to it,
and you'll be fine everytime!!
!! IMPORTANT !!
Be consistant and Standardised! ...have a common AVI file name to use, ie
"CAPTURE.AVI" or if you're using frameserver as I do all the time, use "01.vdr"
There's a reason (method) to my madness above!! ...now continue below. . .
STEPS to follow
-----------------
first, lets begin with our (1st) project, and we will continue to use it for all our
future encoding projects:
* ok, stratup TMPG and load in your AVI clip
* now load your template AND THEN make any necessary changes according to
your encoding project that you want to continue to use throughout ALL your
future encoding project
* now, load the UNLOCK.MCF file to unload (you'll see the GRAYed out areas
become WHITE)
* !! VERY IMPORTANT #1 !! now, we click the [SAVE] button and give it
a NEW name for this template
* !! VERY IMPORTANT #2 !! after following all these steps (to the letter)
shut down TMPG [X]
* then, (give a few seconds so disk writing can complete) and restart TMPG
* all you settings should still be there.
* DO NOT LOAD ANY AVI or .VDR or TEMPLATE FILES!!
* now, just begin encoding - note:
-- if you are encoding segments, by using the Advanced/[x]Source, do so, but
then start your encode. Also, if you use some of these filters, remember to
check back to uncheck [] them when you start another encoding project, else
you will find strange encoding not to your specs.
I know that this works for TMPG 12a and others I've tried, except theirs latest
one, 2.x and up. Have standards and consistancies in your projects, and
you'll find yourself one happy baby!! This works for me ALL the time!! For
EVERY encoding project!!
That's pretty much it.
- NO SAMPLES - humbug!!

Hi,
Me again, thankz for replying.
I'm using TMPGEnc v2.02 and I normally doing DVD->VCD using this process:
1. SmartRipper v2.40 to rip .vob files from DVD (normally PAL format)
2. DVD2AVI v1.84 to create .dv2 (video) and .wav (audio)
3. TMPGEnc v2.02 to encode to .MPEG (VCD)
4. Nero v5.5.6.4 to burn as VCD
So you see most of my encoding is done this way, the filenames are taken from the DVD and some are 4:3 and some 16:9.
Take for instance Shrek DVD (PAL), DVD2AVI reports it as 16:9 PAL, no problems.
I did what you said, but as soon as I load the files, it reverts back to 4:3.
Surely there are some lines you can ADD to the template .mcf to save the Advanced settings.
Cheers.
