  1. I had read several threads about video correctors and image enhancers at videohelp.com and how they can improve analog tapes. I have some very old boxing vhs tapes that I would like to restore. I would like to know what corrector and image enhancer to buy.
These are the enhancers and video correctors that I had read about: Dual Proc Amp, Laird VC 2000, Elite Video BVP-4, and the DR-1000 Image Enhancer. Can someone please tell me the two best equipment out of the four that I should buy to restore my vhs tapes? Thanks.

  2. Yes Lordsmurf, I had read the thread that you had posted and it was well written and very informative. Which two enhancer or corrector would you suggest that I purchase to restore my vhs boxing tapes. The tapes are in fairly good condition, on the other hand, the degradation is not bad. I just needed to remove some noise, restore the color and sharpen up the video. Thanks.

  3. Try Videonics Video Equalizer VE-1. Search eBay. I saw them on eBay. At least you can try it and if not happy with you can always sell it back on eBay.

Gerald Sr. All that you name are good correctors, but another that is a standard back in the day was Vidicraft. Even thought they are out of business they made great enhancers & Correctors.

Vidicraft Proc Amp and Vidicraft Detailer (or newer SignVideo gear) should suit you.

As far as removing noise, I have not to date seen a good hardware NR system. If I have to do noise reduction, I still capture AVI and encode with NR filters. If it's not too severe, just mild noise, the ATI AIW card with videosoap and even the DVD recorders I have can often clean it up a bit.

Videonics VE-1 is a pile of crap. AVOID!

Seriously... the old Vidicraft processors, any SignVideo (Studio 1 Productions) stuff, or the Elite Video BVP-4 is what you need. For video noise reduction, use a DVD recorder (like the JVC) that performs that function prior to conversion to DVD. Pioneer and Toshiba also have decent pre-encoding noise reduction filters.

VE-1 worked well enough for me and was helpful for some of my VHS-to-DVD transfers. And I'm also DR-M10S and DR-MH30 (just got it a week ago ) owner.
