1. Is it possible to make a full screen .avi WideScreen? Because i have this avi file of this episode i converted while back but its a little blurry, and i thought if i can get it to view widescreen it would look alot better, is it possible ? and if so how?
2. Secondly, I have a PAL compatable DVD Player and a PAL dvd which i purchased back when i was in Europe, now i purchased a new 50" sony WEGA tv, and well my PAL dvd won't play on it (got it from The Brick) the movie has all these lines but the sound is fine. Now on my previous TV this used to work, but now it no longer works. How do i get my TV to play PAL is it anyway possible?

1. Making it widescreen won't make the picture any clearer. If you wanted to go down that path then you would have to crop the bottom and top of the video, which would probably result in the slicing off of people's heads etc unless you intent to do it frame at a time and vary the crop points. Then you would have to re-encode, further erducing the quality, and re-author. Or you could live it and accept that this is as good at this version will be.
2. If your Sony doesn't support PAL, then look at the menu for the DVD player and see if it can output a pseudo NTSC signal. If it can't then there is nothing you can do except kick yourself for not asking the right questions when you bought the thing.Read my blog here.

my dvd can support PAL/NTSC or Both
(dvp-642)
In NTSC i get black white + all these lines.
In PAL i get a black screen
In both i also get black white + lines.
What about htat "patch" method or is that only for Dvd players? -
What does your DVD player output ? It can play back both PAL and NTSC disks, but can it output NTSC signals for PAL disks ? I am guessing not given the picture you are getting. If this is the case, then you will have to convert the format of your PAL DVDs to NTSC to get your picture back. The patch method is one way, alhough no gurantees that it will work. There is no easy way (in fact, no way at all) to convert from PAL to NTSC and preserve the full quality of the disk, let alone extra features/menus etc.
