this is proabably a lame question but are there any programs that emulate the behaviour of specific standalone dvd players? It's really tricky trying to figure out if a certain dvd project will work correctly on my standalone player or not. Sometimes, the pc can't play but the standalone does and sometimes its the vice versa. an emulator would make it easy to test dvd projects for specific dvd players.

No. Its really a difference of hardware.
PC dvd drives will always be different from standalone dvd players.
