Hi Guys
I've got a p4 3.02Ghz computer which has been running fine for 1 year. Normally when I swich it on I hear a beep and then there is a display on the moniter. For past few months I'm having a problem, when I switch on the computer I don't hear any beep and there is no display on the moniter at all as if it's not connected to the computer. But when I restart my computer I hear the beep and everything works fine. When I switched on this morning it worked fine for a wile and then I got the blue screen of death. Now my computer is not working at all. When I start it I don't hear any beep and nothing is desplayed on the computer. Even when I restart its same thing again.
Please Help

I'm afraid there are too many possibilities. But, as you get no beeps, it may be the motherboard or the power supply. Do the drives spin up, the lights come on?
Pull the motherboard battery with the computer unplugged. Wait a minute or two and reinstall it. That resets the BIOS. Check that all connectors and cards are fully plugged in. If nothing works, unplug all the drives and cards except the boot drive and the video card. Try again.
If still dead, probably replace the power supply. That's fairly inexpensive. If dead after that you have a possible failed motherboard.
That's just a few ideas. Usually no beeps means a problem with the motherboard, but sometimes even the video card can cause that. -
Hi
Thanx for your help. I've already reassembled the whole computer but it still doesn't work. All the drives are working coz I can see the lights. I've already reset the bios but that doesn't work either. The thing is that everything seems to be working fine, all the drives, hard disk, graphics card but for some reason nothing comes up on the monitor.
As I mentioned earlier, I've had a similar problem before and restarting the computer used to solve the problem but that doesn't seem to be working anymore. The monitor appears as if it's not getting any signal at all. I'm not sure if this is the problem but there is this thing called DPS(Dual Power Supply) card in my computer. I was making sure that it was inserted properly and I pressed on it and all of a sudden I heard a beep and the computer booted up. But just before Windows could load the computer froze again and now its back to the same thing. Even adjusting the DPS doesn' help. Don't know what to do now..[/b] -
Your mobo manual should give you the POST audible profiles. W/O beep, maybe your video card isn't working. Pull it (again) and look at the connectors in the slot. Make sure none of them are bent down. Also, clean the gold fingers on the video card with alcohol and a soft cloth.
Sounds like you have a bad connection somewhere in your machine. Remove EVERYTHING except the video card, and see if it operates.ICBM target coordinates:

Check and replace the reset switch , I bet its melted , it cought me out once before .

I think power supply is fine as all the drives are working. Can anyone help me out with the Dual Power Supply (DPS) card inserted in the motherboard. What does it actually do? It's not fitted very tightly. There's a metal clip that goes over the card but the card still moves very easily

My computer started for a while as I was fixing the DPS card but as the windows was about to load it froze again. I think my computer not starting has got something to do with it

The make and model of your motherboard would be very helpful. If your DPS is similar to what I have on one of my boards, it is a separate power regulator for your CPU.
It's supposed to isolate the CPU from loads on the power supply that can make the CPU unstable. Most have a 4 pin connection from the power supply to the DPS module that is separate from the 20pin ATX PS plug.
The drives are on the ATX plug and so you can still have a PS problem with the DPS connection and they will seem to work - but the CPU won't. If that DPS connector is loose or comes unplugged you could burn out the CPU. Don't move those cables around when the computer is on. -
My motherboard is Gigabyte GA8INXP. How should I make sure if the DPS is working properly. Can it be responsible for my computer not starting

"I think power supply is fine as all the drives are working."
Yep, you get lights & stuff, but no display. At least I did & it was the PS about 3 times. -
Hi guys
Thanx for your help so far
I've tried almost everything and the conclusion I've come up with is that there might be something wrong with my AGP slot coz my graphics card works just fine.Is there any way of checking the AGP slot to make sure that's waht the problem is. If that is the problem, Apart from getting a new motherboard is there anything else I can do to deal with this problem.
