I'm basically looking to replace my broken vcr, which is currently only being using to bridge the gap between my tv and my entertainment system. The main purpose I need it for, is to record shows I want to watch, but have to stay up late for, etc.

I don't really plan on relocating what I record to my pc, unless its something I really want to keep for later (like a documentary or something).

If I get a DVR, I'll have to subscribe to a service, plus I'll have to invest in further equipment in order to transfer stuff to my PC. However, I'll also have a large amount of storage space to work with.

If I get a DVDR, I'll have somewhat limited storage space. I also plan on mainly using only DVD-Ram. If I want to keep something, I could use a DVD-RW or get a DVD-Ram compatible drive.

Both have their pro's and con's, but neither seem to have a feature that makes it stand above the other. And as one who doesn't like to blow money on items that leave me unsatisfied with their worth, I'm hesitant to purchase either.

So, I thought that someone here, being more knowledgable about these things, could suggest which would be better for me. If it matters, I plan on buying a Panasonic DMR-ES10S for a DVDR, but not a clue yet for a DVR. TIA for any suggestions or advice you might offer.

  2. I have Tivo, which I love. I also have a Pioneer 420 recorder with hard drive. I wouldn't want to be without either. But if I could only have one it would be the Tivo. I almost never watch live tv anymore and I always have lots of good shows waiting to be watched.
