Thanks everybody, for your help and suggestions regarding my problem. I appreciate it very much!![]()
One more question: Are there any easy newbie-friendly, free programs for converting these flv videos to DVD, so I can play them on DVD discs on our television?
I was looking at ConvertXToDVD but these instructions look too complicated:
http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/158/59/
Replay Converter looks easy. But it looks like it only converts FROM DVD, not TO DVD.Is that right?

I am trying desperately to capture an online video from dailymotion for the past week.
Unfortunately it is labeled as a private video therefore it has no URL to use with keepvid or other downloading sites like that.
I have been trying to capture it with SnagIt but I only get a black screen and awful sound. I use VLC Player to view audio files.
Anyone has some advise or another program I should use?
Thanks guys! -
Froggie: Yep, Replay Converter doesn't convert to dvd. ConvertXtoDVD is not that complex.
BlackAdder2TheRescue: You get black video becasue the video is displayed using video overlay/hardware acceleration and I don't know how to disable it for flash video. Try another screen desktop capture tool, I think fraps can capture overlay video. -

**HOW TO PREPARE/INSTALL/JUST PLAIN ACCOMPLISH THE SAID ABOVE**
1. Be smart and go switch browsers/or upgrade version to Firefox-2.0.0.4
CODE
mozilla.com/en-US] - Firefox 2.0.0.4
2. Install a Firefox add-on script (PLUG-IN) called GreaseMonkey
CODE
addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748 - GreaseMonkey 0.6.9
3. Install a Firefox add-on script called Thumbs2Links
CODE
userscripts.org/scripts/show/7284 - Thumbs2Links
visit the developers homepage if you wish, not a part of the install
CODE
thedarkman.altervista.org/indexen.html - devs homepage for Thumbs2Links
4. Easy is as easy was. your done.
Now with your next visit to any of the above mentioned sites, when
your on a page, or page child that shows multiple, or even shows one
thumbnail image link of a video you want to watch just click the red
Get direct links! and the thumbs2links script will generate direct links
to any and all videos you have displayed.
**note**
Right-click choose Save link As on the just generated direct
links, and rename XXXXXX.flv to "desiredname".flv -
I mentioned nothing of Fraps so why your referencing that im not sure.
Are you using InternetExplorer that maybe why, if you arent and your indeed
using Firefox 2. I all i can suggest is that your NOT scrolling the page down far enough
when you click the GET DIRECT scroll way down bottom of page and the displayed FLV
links will be there. I promise ya if you did as directed bro youll have results.
Hit me back if you still have no success -
Froggie ConvertX2DVD is the least difficult encoder tool out there.
Open the program, select add video file, put a blank DVD media in burner
and click convert. Thats it period.
If you want to customize the aspect ratio, (WIDESCREEN VS. FULLSCREEN)
or add your own jpeg background for the Menu screen those are the only real "preferences" or "settings" that you need to consider doing.
Just in its default form out of the box convertx will make a fine copy of any video file into a DVD. 1. select video 2. convert
So easy a caveman could do it -
vcoakland and Baldrick, thank you for the helpful info. It certainly sounds like ConvertXToDVD is the one for me!
Is it still $40 to purchase?

I'm new to all this and probably have some very stupid questions. I have read over some threads and that answered some things but I'd like to try to ask these anyway - thanks in advance for any helpful replies.
(1) I've seen many mentions of the Firefox browser and addons for that as one method for downloading/saving videos from sites like youtube. I don't use Firefox but do use "SeaMonkey" (v1.1.4). Do the Firefox addons also work with Seamonkey (I assume not but...)? Or are there addons/extensions for Seamonkey that do the same thing? I admit to being a bit confused as to the difference(s) between Firefox and Seamonkey, since they both come from the same developers (I thought), and I started with Seamonkey back when it was MOZILLA, and I thought Firefox was just the browser subset of Mozilla....
(2) I've downloaded some videos from Youtube using http://keepvid.com/ as mentioned in this thread. In the past I've used a tool called "DivxtoDVD" to convert the downloaded FLV files to a DVD format, then convert to IMG with IMGBURN, then burn to DVD with IMGBURN.
I see that this thread mentions something called ConvertXToDVD though - is that better than DIVXTODVD in some way, and if so what way(s)???
(3) Instead of burning each downloaded video to a seperate DVD like I have done in the past, I have a bunch downloaded now that I think are small and I want all to burn to one DVD. How do I do that? And how do I control the order of the videos on the final DVD? And how do I add menus if I want? Actually I want to keep things as simple as possible and not even get into menus, just have the ability to skip past each video in sequence. I have the FLVs downloaded now but have not converted any of them yet and decided to ask up here b4 I try futzing around.
Thanks for any hints. -
wow dude , you might focus on one issue/project at a time, hence more feedback
when your NOT jumping all over the arena.
As far as i know SeaMonkey is a suite of some sort i doubt it has the support or user base
or features like FireFox has....so i cant really answer that aside from suggesting adopt Firefox 2
its the best/easiest/safest/most customizable in my eyes.
THESE ARE MY OPINIONS REMEMBER THAT-
-turn multiple FLVS into avis to begin with use dvdflick or zamzar.com
-then/or use any avi joiner software to make a large AVI from your converted FLVS
-ConvertX2DVD will encode/convert and burn your user made AVIS 2 DVD
if your step (2) was giving repeating sound results why do you wish to change it?
good luck -
vcoakland, I just sent you a message with a couple of questions. I'm not sure if that earlier one I sent went through to you ok.

it then created a bunch of VOB, IFO, and BUP files all in one directory
i then converted all of that into a single "IMG" file with IMGBURN, then burned that to DVD, then watched it and that behaved how i wanted so that's a small victory
i think it is "messy" though because (and i don't understand/know the right terminology and everything yet for all this) but i noticed that it did index a bit strangely, in that it mostly just said "1" for each chapter (instead of like 1, 2, 3, 4, etc), also pressing skip to next chapter did not actually go perfectly into every next chapter, but it did at least proceed in the right direction
so for a first project (and not really knowing what i'm doing) i did ok :)

i want to understand why people are using that tool over the one i happened to find - is mine crap? does it do things wrong in some way, worse quality etc? that's all....i just want to learn rather than blindly settle on things...

Also IIRC, extension support isn't as extensive in Seamonkey as it is in Firefox; some FF extensions may work in Seamonkey with or without modifications, but you'd have to check with the extension authors on that.
I have one or two sources for Mozilla Suite/Seamonkey extensions, and this is the most up-to-date source I have: http://forum.addonsmirror.net/index.php?showforum=43

I am trying to download a file from Youtube. It saves as a MS-DOS Application file and not as a file that I can convert to a .flv file - like most I can save this way.
Why does this file save as a MS-DOS Application file?
Is there any way around this?
Thanks -
Just rename it with FLV as the extension.
And do yourself a favor: turn of the "hide extensions for known file types" option in Explorer. -
Hi,
Thanks for your help but none of these suggestions work - so far.
Renaming this MS-DOS Application file does nothing. It just does this - MS-Dos.flv.com or get_video.flv.com.
I have a very simple system Windows 98SE with no firewall or virus or anything else.
I have download hundredes of YT video files so far with no problem except for a few files that only save as MS-DOS Application.
The same thing happens with my friends computer , he is running Windows 2000 with Norton firewall and virus.
Thanks for your suggestions please let me know of anything else that might work.
I'm still trying to figure out why this happens. -
The following YouTube video files save as MS-DOS Applications and not as a regular file that I can convert to FLV.
Melissa Auf Der Maur & Courtney Love Drag 1999
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YP0KigDsjk
Alanis Morissette - Wake Up live 1996
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4HiK8lw7tQ
Anyone please let me know if the same happens to you too or if you can somehow save these files - let me know. Thanks -
YTpackrats: It worked fine to download with FireFox and the DownloadHelper addon. 9.1MB and 14.9MB. How do you download them?
-
Hi, I can't use firefox.
I tried to download Firefox and install it in the past and it dosen't work with my system because of some reason I forget now. I have been trying many things to solve this with the system I have and not change my system too much.
Maybe if you are able to download these two files you can send them to me using megaupload or some other. Or have another suggestion.
Thanks again for all your help. -
For Windows 98SE - 56k dial-up - my system
When a (most YT files that is) YouTube file starts the file automatically saves it in my Windows Temp folder as get_video(1) file. After completion I type .flv extention and the file converts to a FLV file that I can play in Wimpy. Wimpy is a free FLV player. A MS-DOS Application file is listed as such with fewer Megs and can't be converted to FLV.
For Windows 2000 - DSL - my friends system - it dosen't work that way.
When the YouTube file finishes you need to go to "Find Files" utility and enter a search using the URL extension in the small window that YouTube provides. Then hit search and it finds the file get_video(1) and then i'm able to do the same, convert this file to .flv and play it.
A MS-DOS Application file does not save at all to this system. -

This still saved as MS-DOS Application.com. while downloading.
After the file finishes downloading I rename this file to a FLV file - and it does change to a FLV file.
This worked for both files and seems to be working so far. There are a few others I will try it on.
Well, Thanks so much to all for your help! That solves my problem. -
Hello,
I used ConverXtoDVD with a rmvb file after I have taken out all the ..?\<. foreign characters and renamed it "movie.rmvb". there was a burn error message "wrong line" so what went wrong because this is the easiest software to use to get anything into DVD.
Also can I hold the burn so that I can check for picture quality and sound first before the burn. Thanks

Currently using Ultra RM Convertor (http://www.aone-soft.com/rmconverter.htm) even though many on the board here don't like All-In-One solutions. This one actually works quite well though the batch encode crashes on my machine. Doing each file individually works the treat though. 250 - 350 Meg RMVB files usually convert to 1.35 Gig with the default settings. Output is in DVD compliant VOB files that can be loaded into authoring software quite easily. Be wary of the "add letterbox to keep aspect ratio" checkbox as it can cause problems with widescreen content. Ditto with the setting for standard (4:3) or widescreen (16:9) TV option. Do some tests with the free download before you plunk down money on it. This one was suggested to me by a friend whose brother-in-law had bought the Ipod conversion tool for him that also works very well....

Hi,
I just followed @baldricks's post to capture the stream from here. But it captures very slow. How can I capture the asf stream from there at some faster rate? Please provide all the possible steps n solutions.
Thanx! -
hi there,
i could download MSyoutube clips in MS-DOS APPLICATION file fully by keepvid.com but my Window Media Player couldnot play it even though i have codec. I wonder if my codec still donot support it.
I use WMP version 10.
i did try to 'hide extension' method but the matter is that i just only download in internet service because of its doanloading speed, and i couldnot change the system status there, it means i couldnot un-tick 'hide extension', so i have to download in MS-DOS application file, then play them at home.
i know someone's computers can play it but mine cant.
Any advice, please
Thanks,
