  1. Hello All,

I have a Sony DRU-500A and a Sony 500 DRU-700A. I get the same results on both devices.

When I play back a backed up copy of a DVD that was backed up with DVD-Shrink, DVD Decrypter or DVD X Copy Platinum (before decryption was remove), the DVD will play fine for about the first 30 to 45 mins, so time longer, and then start skipping (the screnes jump ahead by several seconds).

The DVD's I record with are Memorex DVD-R 8x and the player I use is the KOSS KS5190.

    Any suggestions?

    thanks,

Sounds like bad burn/media to me. Scan the disc for errors. Find out the manufacturer of the disc. (Memorex is just a brand - they buy their discs from some manufacturer - which seems to vary over time) Have a look at what www.nomorecoasters.com have to say about that manufacturer.
Even if it's good media, it may not be optimal for your writer/player. Try another manufacture.

I also have a Sony DRU-500A and have burned backups with great results using Decrypter.

I mainly use Ritek G04 4X discs, but have also used other brands like TY and TDK.

    Try different media.

  4. What type of DVD player do you have? Like I said, the DVD starts out fine, but after a while, it begins to skip. I'll try some new media to see if that works. I also have some blank TDK's -R that I'll try.

    Thanks,

Are you putting labels on them? Many people are getting playback problems near the end of the DVD when they label the DVD. I also have the Sony DRU-500A, and have had no problems.

  6. I have a Sony 510a - and it will NOT burn to 8x rated dvd media. I'm sure it is due to Sony's refusal to bother putting out any newer firmware updates to expand media compatibility. I will never buy another Sony dvd burner for this reason.
I suggest you try picking up some 4x rated media (I use Ritek G04 -R very successfully) and try burning at 2x - just to see if the media/burn speed is the issue.

  7. Thanks guys. I have some TDK 4x media and maybe I'll try to burn it at 2x to see if that makes a difference. And yes, I am putting labels on the disc. I'll test that theory to see if that makes a difference. It only happens with my stand alones. I have a laptop with a DVD player and a portable and my disc work ok in those.

I'm also experiencing another problem which seem to be happening with all my playback of backed up DVD's. I'm starting to see subtitles at the bottom of the screen as if I'm playing a movie of a different language. The subtitles are in english, but so is the movie. Is that something I'm turning on while burning? I'm using DVD Shrink 3.2 to burn.

    thanks,

    Labels = bad news

Generally, with the exception of forced subs, sub-title control comes form the player. Check the player menu to see if you have it set to play English subtitles by default. I know my Pioneer does this if not set correctly.

  9. Thanks. I'll have to stop with the putting labels on my disc then.

I don't get sub-titles when I watch an original DVD, only backups. Does that make a difference.
