Hi everyone, it's my first post but not my first visit!!!

I have a divx video file that contains 2 different languages on an AC3 audio file. The first language is Spanish and the second one is English. What I'd like to do is to burn this file on a DVD and only have the english language. What happens when I extract the audio in a stereo wave file, it's the spanish that takes the place. What I really want to do is to burn that file on a DVD but only with the Engilsh or the option to select the language. I tried different things but nothing worked...

I figured that if I extract the AC3 file from the DivX file, I could then extract indivual audio files from the ac3 file and then render the video file only with the audio corresponding to the english language.

    Thanks

I believe that each language would be it's own audio file. Do not confuse multi-channel with multiple (audio) tracks. There should be an AC3 file for the english, and one for spanish. These files are likely (I am guessing) in some form of container (.mkv/matroska or .ogm).

If you provide more info (file type, what tools you tried) people here may be better able to assist you.

Thanks Baldrick, your knowledge really kicked my ass

    AVIMUXGUI is a great tool.

I would ask another question: Do you know any software that could extract each of the individual channels contained in an AC3 file?

    Thanks

  6. Hi-

In the AC3/OGM/PCM portion of the BeSweet GUI is a box to tick to extract 6 mono WAVs from the DD 5.1 AC3 audio. If there's a way to separate each of the DD Mono channels (there probably is), I don't know about it. I'm curious as to why you'd want to do this.

Hi, thanks for the hint, I'll try it when I get Home.
Actually, I'm a "film composer". I'm doing a masters in composition, here in Montreal. I sometimes rework on done material and I like to see how the sound mix was done. From DVDs, it's pretty easy but haven't found yet how to do that from avi or other video files. Rarely, I might find a mix that has the dialogues separeted from the music. There are many reasons why I want to do that.
    Thanks a lot

  8. Hi-

OK, thanks for the explanation. That makes sense. The only time I've found a need to separate the channels was when preparing to slow a PAL Movie down to NTSC speed, and I've needed the 6 Mono WAV files slowed down before reencoding to DD 5.1. Since it didn't sound like that's what you were doing, I couldn't resist asking.

    Curiosity killed the cat.

  9. Frankly I believe people here strayed away from what you were trying to do in the first place: convert a DIVX with 2 audio channels (AC3) to a DIVX with a single audio channel. Nothing is easier than that with Virtualdubmod for instance.

Open your AVI file in Virtualdubmod, under both video and audio choose 'direct stream copy'. Open the audio stream list and unselect the first audio stream (the one you want to get rid of ).

Then go to 'file/save avi', specify a new name 'my avi with one audiostream.avi' and press ok. In a couple of minutes tops you have a new avi without the extra audio stream.

In case you need to do separate work on the audio, makes sense indeed to extract it separately etc etc. Otherwise I would just stick with this simple method - I use it all the time.

  11. I also have a Divx Video with 2 audio channels, but I want to convert it to DVD with both audio tracks. Is this possible and if so what programs can I use?
