Im using studio 9 to convert all my VHS and camcorder videos to CD and DVD. Yesterday i used my camcorder and it worked perfect, but today when i tried whit my VHS videos it didnt work. I could not change the capturing mode from camcorder to VHS. In settings ther is a capture source alternative, but the only alternative avalibel is DV Camcorder. Anyone knows what im doing wrong?

    Thank you for the help.

  2. Do you have a compatible analog capture card installed? Is it being recognized by Studio 9?

Yes i have a analog capture card and its the same brand as Studio 9, but i cant find the box right now. I captured video from my camcorder from it so it must be recognizec by Studio 9.

Should there be any other alternative in the capture source bar*?

*I think its called bar. Its the same thing as were it says 'All Post' and 'Oldest First' under my post.

    Hello,
From your comments I assume you have been useing analog inputs?
That would mean your camcorder has video and audio outputs to your computer? If not and your camcorder has either a 1394 or USB2 output
then you need to use the passthru feature of your camcorder..Check you book to see how to do it..Generally you don't insert a tape in the camcorder but use the video and audio inputs from you vcr to the camcorder will encode it into some form..
Can you be more specific about your set up?

Yes im using analog inputs. Im not that tecnical so i dont know the corect word for the things i use but if you look at the picture im using the 3 cables to the left when i conect my camcorder, where the 2 first are for audio and the yellow is for video. It works fine and i didnt had to change any settings.

I dont have those 3 outputs on my VCR (i called it VHS in my first post), so im using the scart output but i still connect it to my computer whit the yellow input + audio.

After connecting my vcr and starting Studio 9.3 i go to the Capture part, there is a picture of a camcorder and i get an error like this:

    --
    'Capture divice initialization error'

Pinnacle studio Plus is trying to initialize a DV or digital 8 camcorder via a 1394 port.

If you are trying to capture analog video:
1.Click on setup -> Capture Source and select the correct video capture device.
    2. Open the left hand panel on the diskometer (capture controler,) and set the correct analog video input port (compisite or s-video.)

    --
And after that it says what i should do if im using a camcorder.

The problem is that in Capture Source the only device i can select is the DV camcorder.I do this when the vcr is connected and when it plays a video but still the only alternative is the camcorder.

And there is no left hand panel on the diskometer to set the correct input port, but i gess its becous i dont have the correct capture source.

What should i do to be able to choose another capture source than the camcorder?

    Hi again,
I am still puzzled as to how you are trying to do this..
First, are you going from your VCR(what model number?) in composite analog(red&white audio, &yellow video RCA plugs?) to the input of your camcorder as shown in your picture?
Then, is your camcorder(what model number?) output a single 1394/USB cable to your computer port ?
Another Quiestion, can you capture with another program such as Windows movie maker useing that very setup? That will tell you if it is your set up or is Studio not seeing your camcorder?

  7. You saidf Studio 9 captures OK from your camcorder using the RCA cables (red/white/yellow) and your VCR does not have those 3 RCA outputs.

Well, your VCR must have at least one yellow output (video) and one white OR red output (for mono audio). Connect two instead of 3 then.

If it does not have any, then too bad, you need to buy one VCR that has all 3.

    This should solve your problem.

Im sorry that i cant explain good, but i will try again.

My camcorder works fine, i just used it as an example so you know that its nothing wrong whit my computers hardware.

The problem im having is when i want to connect my VCR (Sony) to my computer.

    Im have connected this

to my VCR. That will give me 3 cables out from my VCR, red/white/yellow. And these three i connect to my computer. Yet i cant choose a diffrent capture source than the DV Camcorder in studio 9.

I have not tried to capture whit Windows movie maker simply because i have never used it and i dont have it.

Edit: thank you donpedro, that is exacly the convreter im using (whit 3 output cables).

    Ahh!
Heres a link to the description of a scart connector and it also indicates that you may be able to change some of the settings on the software(menu)..Is it possible to activate the composite scart outputs in the VCR menu?

    Heres the linl,hope it helps..

  12. DonPedro.,
thanks for the very clear pictures of what the VCR in discussion here has. I live in US so I tend to forget there are European standards (PAL and etc....) although I live in Europe also for almost 7 years. There is no true standard in Europe, for example, the TV sets that works in Belgium won't work in France and vice verse the time I lived there. Don't know if they adopt one common standard yet.
