  1. Hello all,
I am new to this forum. Can someone tell me which software is better when it comes to shriking the DVDs. I had read DVD rebuilder is better if you doing a large backup. Does it really matter which software I use? DVD shrink or DVD-Rb?????

  2. 'Best' is a matter of opinion !
It is probably better if you test these two pieces of software out yourself and come to your own conclusions.
Every individual has there own thoughts and preferences on what is best so you will probably end up getting several different answers.
It also depends on what you are playing/watching your backed up movies on.

I personally use DVDshrink, I do a main movie only backup keeping the main menu and I find it extremely difficult to notice any difference in quality from the original, even with a large amount of compression, and I'm very fussy about picture quality !

I also have quite a high end home cinema setup which gives great quality.

PS I haven't used DVD-RB so I cant give my opinion on this.

I use DVD Rebuilder all the time. I bought Cinema Craft Encoder Basic and the quality is awsome. I've backed up dvd's being compressed over 50% and they are sharp & crystal clear. With DVD Rebuilder you can backup 2 movies to a DVD5 with no quality loss, I do this all the time.

    Hope this helps,

  5. Actually, at least one guy took this question very seriously and designed a quite excellent test on it. Read this:

    http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=91418

Conclusion: DVD-RB hands down the winner.

How is DVD Rebuilder with QuEnc(Free) HC Encoder(Free) ReJig(Free) instead of paying $58 for CCE Basic?
Some days it seems as if all I'm doing is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic

I use DVD-RB Pro w/CCE-Basic, and love the quality, but my understanding is that the quality is basically the same if you use the HCEncoder or QuEnc (free encoders). However, the time difference is significant. The free encoders are much slower.

I've tried DVD-RB w/QuEnc and it took over 5-hours to run. For the same project, DVD-RB w/CCE Basic took around 2-hours. I noticed no difference in the quality.

ReJig is a transcoder and not an encodered. So, DVD-RB w/ReJig is comparable to DVD-Shrink.

By the way, for me CCE-basic was well worth the $58. I now use it as my encoder of choice over TMPGEnc Plus.
