I don't want to buy the TmpgEnc AC3 plugin at this time.. BUT - that said; is there a (free) DVD Authoring software (other than TmpgEnc DVD Author 1.6) that will allow me to Author with AC3 sound?
That is; for example, if I demux a Divx file that was encoded IN Ac3 5.1, to separate audio, video streams;- then, use TmpgEnc to encode the Avi to a Mpeg.. what program can I then use to Author the mpeg to DVD, while incorporating -or- retaining the AC3 surround sound stream ?
Does DVDAuthorGui work with Ac3 sound?
Any suggestions ? Thanks !

Thanks, I sorta thought that TDA would only take Mp2 files; which is why I brought up the question. Hmmm..so I CAN use ffmpggui ?
Great ! Soo; I would simply run the AVI file through ffmpeggui, to get the AC3 surround sound file, then simply use THAT file for the Audio in TDA?
And the result would be 2 channel, or 5.1 channel surround sound on my dvd ? This is too cool ~! 8)

If your AVI already has AC3 audio, you just have to demux the audio. ffmpeggui is used when the AVI audio is in some other format than AC3, and you want it AC3 encoded.

Zippy, sooo your're saying that I'll get 2 channel AC3... but no SURROUND sound ? (I have just a Dolby Digital Pro Logic amplifier, not a Pro Logic II amp)
Then, what can I do to change the AC3 files into SURROUND sound files ?
Thanks for your advice.

If your AVI contains 5.1 AC3, all you have to do is to use the same audio in your DVD, and get surround sound.
If your AVI contains 2 channel (stereo) audio, all you'll get is 2 channel (stereo) audio - regardless of what codec you use. (AC3 or MP2 or LPCM.)
Some would argue that you can turn 2 channel into 5.1, but it will not be true surround sound, and requires quite some work, and can't be done with free apps.

Welll.. ok.. but what I actually meant is how can I incorporate the Pro Logic Signal into the sound files, whether they are AC3, Mp3 or 0gg or whatever... ? I like the Pro Logic Surround Sound, even if it's just mono rear channels... it's still a whole lot better than simple 2 channel stereo.
I've been looking around VideoHelp.com.. and other sites.. it seems that there are only a few applications that will incorporate Pro Logic into video sound files. Vegas 5 is one of those applications, I DO have this program...but I haven't looked at it very much. so maybe that's the route to go.
Any thoughts ? Thanks again for your advice ~!
