  1. I have a weird problem ...I have made some successful vcd's with motion menus and some not so successful motion menus for some reason.
I dont know if its a problem because I chose vcd 2as the format? but when I start the vcd in my Pioneer dv 440 it says pbc what is that?
then if I do a search for a time setting it changes the front panel to say vcd 2.0 which is ok and it shows time remaining etc...but...
it only shows 3 chapters and when you try to advance it goes back to the motion menu.
    anyone know why?
what is the best format to choose? vcd 1 or 2?
I want the time remaining to show up!
    What does pbc mean?
    thanks

  2. Some players only show the time index for VCD1.1 discs.
On VCD2.0 Discs they just display PBC. My guess is that when you do a time-index search you are disabling the PBC, so it no longer sees your chapter points. PBC (playback control) is responsible for all the navigation features on a 2.0 disc.

You can try making a VCD1.1 disc with VCDEasy, and chapterpoints should work on most players, but menus are not supported. The Shinco built players don't seem to support vcd1.1 chapters for some reason, but your Pioneer should.

  4. Actually VCD1.1 chapters are not supported by many if not most DVD players.

VCD2.0 supports "PBC" which stands for "play-back control". That is, it allows user interaction in menus and the like. If you VCD2.0 disc has "PBC" instructions authored in it, your player may simply display "PBC" rather than "VCD2.0".

However, you CANNOT do a time search in PBC mode so if you do it, the player automatically switches off PBC. Now, you have time search but all the PBC reliant features (e.g., menus, "next" and "prev" and usually chapters) will no longer fuction properly.

I wish there was a way to encode all of it...chapters motion menus as well as time remaining and time searches but I guess there isnt for now.
