Hi,
Just installed a Pioneer 220s. I'm not planning on using the tuner so I have no antenna hooked up. When I finish playing a DVD or when I turn it on it defaults to the tuner giving me a loud noise from trying to play from tuner-channel 2.
Is there any way to bypass the tuner when using a pioneer?
I have read and been through the manual but cant find a way to not have the tuner come on when a DVD finishes or when I press stop. Usually the volume is up and the loud static noise is nerve recking.
Anyone found a way to not have the tuner come on when powering up or when a DVD finishes? If so please help.
I looked for a blue screen adjustment like on VCR's that when you dont get a good reception it goes to a muted blue screen but am at a loss with the Pioneer. I would like to bypass the tuner all together if possible.
Really really appericate a solution.
TIA,
NL

How do you have your 220 hooked up? I have mine connected directly to my digital cable box using a S-VIDEO cable & reg. audio cables. I only use my 220 to record. I use my apex dvd players to watch dvds. I've never experienced any loud noises from the tuner.

Hey budz,
I dont have it hooked up to any kind of antenna. So there is no signal for the tuner.
I wasnt planning to use it for TV recording anytime soon. Got lots of VHS to transfer first. I need to purchase a few cables so I just tried out the player so far. (pic looks good but it did hang on the credits of the 1st DVD-Video movie I tried, recorded on a Taiyo Yuden blank.) Maybe a fluke.
If you are playing a DVD and it finishes or you press stop doesnt the tuner part come on (either cable, TV, or sat)?
Thats what I'm trying to bypass...the tuner coming on when I turn it on or the player finishes a DVD.
Thanks.

I use the VIDEO 2 INPUT (front inputs) of the 220 to my digital cable box. I use the VIDEO mode on my lil 20 inch that I have in pc room to view the dvd movie. No tuner, cable comes on when I've finished watching a dvd. Do you have the RF cable installed from your 220 to the TV? Maybe that's why you're getting the tuner coming on. If I do vhs to dvd I use the front VIDEO 2 inputs as well. Perhaps it would help if you posted how your 220 unit is connected to your tv.

Ok, found the solution.
Sometimes things are too simple.
The unit comes with the input default on "antenna."
While , again, playing w/ the remote I pressed the "input select" button and changed it from TV to Line 1 ( L1 ) and problem solved. L2, L3 also work.
This bypasses the tuner and now since no signal is coming through line inputs no noise during start up or when I press stop or DVD ends.
Success!
budz, your last post would have got me there if I had not found it myself.
I was simply not thinking about changing from antenna to a Line input.
Anyway I got it. Now if I fall asleep during a movie when it ends I wont be awaken by a blaring noise from the tuner section.
I have mine hooked up through my Denon receiver. The receiver upconverts all signals from any device to one output to the TV. So it's incorporated into my home theater setup. When I get my VCR ready to learn the recording procedures I will probably do as you said and use the front inputs (L2) and monitor it through the Denon TV output already connected to the TV. I'm thinking using "manual" record mode to get the best quality and fit on a blank. And hope using DVD-video mode works with my Plextor 716a for any editing.
I really appreciate your help. Just sorry I didnt find the solution sooner as it was really simple "after" the fact.
Thanks again.
