  1. When I backup my DVD's, I remove the menus and everything else with DVD Shrink. All I leave is the movie itself. On some movies they may begin in chapter 4 or somewhere in the middle of the movie. What would cause this and is there a fix for it? This happens maybe one out of five times. I'm using Decrypter to rip them, then Shrink to remove the menus and Decrypter to burn them. I'm using an NEC 3500 drive with TYG02 discs.

To get the movie only, use the "Re-author" window and save the movie only. I've never had any issues doing this.

  3. That's what I've been doing and the movies play fine. But on some when I put the disc in, it starts in maybe chapter 12 or the middle of the movie and I have to back up to the first chapter. Any idea why it would do that? Could it be my dvd player mabe?

That would be my first guess...but who knows. I've never heard of that happening before. But if the whole movie is there and it is just starting in random places, sounds like the player.

Many players will resume where they left off if you stop the movie and don't remove it, then hit play again later.

To me, this sounds right... In both of my players, when I pop in a movie-only dvd, the movie starts playing right away (instead of going to a menu). I typically pop in a movie and walk away. When I come back, the movie may be 10minutes into the movie, I'll hit stop, and then play again. Guess what, it picks back up right where I left off.. If I press 'Stop' TWICE on my dvd players, they say 'resume off', and then the movie starts at the beginning. Give it a shot...

  6. That may very well be what's going on. I just never thought about that. I'll try the stop twice trick and see if that works for my player. Thanks.

Good chance it is the player. One of mine (the cheap Chinese one) sometimes does this with commercially produced DVDs ("Crouching Tiger" being one example, and yes, I'm talking about the original DVD, not a backup). Plays fine on my Toshiba player. And no, I didn't buy "Crouching Tiger" from a guy on the street selling out of the back of his truck.
