i just purchased a philips dv 642 stand alone player, it's capable of playing mpeg4, avi, divx......i use nero (latest version) to burn these movie files, i use g-spot to view details on movies, my first burn i was able to burn everything i wanted with no problem. my second burn was not as successful, for the five movies i was to put on a standard dvd-r, 2 out the 5 were successful, so now i'm alittle confused, with this new player i shouldn't have to convert, but the burn should be simple.........i i then tried to burn as simple data disk and this was 50/50, so is there a certain icon that i should go to on nero start smart, when in dvd mode, that will produce playable avi's in avi format?

Burn as an ISO data disc. Also the player won't just play any avi. There are restrictions.

Maybe you could post screenshots of the files that won't work.

So the problem isn't with Nero not burning the files, but with the player not playing the files that you burned, right?

I haven't had a problem making Data DVDs with Nero but like celtic_druid said, the Philips player won't play everything that you throw at it.
I had to convert the audio on all of my XviD/VBR MP3 AVIs and shorten the filenames (they were pretty long since they were series episodes) before I could play them on my Philips player. Any audio (or video) compression that is not compatible with the player will either cause the files to not play or cause them to play all messed up.
