Now DVD media is so cheap I've just started converting VHS home videos to a more convenient format and editing them with a DV editor.

I've captured the VHS by playing on a Sony SLV E700 recording on a Toshiba RDXS32SB to a Fujifilm DVD-RW DVD disc. The results show no deterioration on TV or PC. To edit I need to convert to AVI DVD2AVI etc.resulting AVI still no problem.
After editing I need to render before reauthoring. After this stage scenes with motion seem blurred. No block distortion sometimes found with VCDs etc. but enough to make the viewer dizzy. I've tried to use Vegas, Premiere 6 & Pinnacle Studio 7 all of which I've used for dv edting without this problem.
    Can anyone help please?

Is your source interlaced ? If so, maybe incorrect field order selected ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

Sounds more like the software is deinterlacing. The source, having been captured onto a DVD-RW on a DVD recorder, is most definitely interlaced.

I would use VirtualDub for converting to uncompressed AVI.

And then be careful when settings up the project settings in Premiere. None of them are TFF interlace by default.

Thanks Guys I thought about interlacing, but...
I tried the MPG2 version of VDub which accepts VOB files direct from DVD. Produced uncompressed AVI about 9GB for 5 minutes. Too big to view but Vegas & Premiere accept OK. Render with both Upper & Lower fields first produces AVI of about 1 GB but with original problem. I see VDub has a field order setting for preview. Does this have any bearing on output?
Perhaps I'm missing something or misunderstood. Any further comments welcomed.
