  1. Is there a simple tool out there to analyze basic characteristics of a video file such as size (720x480, etc), resolution (6000, etc), frame rate (25, etc)? Particullarly I am trying to do this for mpeg2 files but to be able to do this with avi files would also be nice.

  2. VirtualDubMPEG2. File -> Open Video File -> File -> File Information.

    Also latest beta version of GSpot.

    For MPEG (1 or 2), I've been using Manzanita's MPEG ID alot lately.
    PVA Strumento is good, ReStream is good--even if you aren't going to change the settings.
